In Episode 1065 of A Well-Designed Business, I describe how neuroaesthetics – the science of how our environment and artwork affect our brain and nervous system – can help designers articulate their value and create more impactful spaces.  LuAnn Nigara is one of the leading voices in the interior design industry with her books, LuAnn University, and her #1 interior design podcast in the world. Her dedication to supporting our businesses with her sound advice and support knows no bounds. It was an honor and great privilege when she asked me to be a guest on her podcast to talk about neuroaesthetics in interior design.

Harnessing Neuroaesthetics: Understanding the Power of Space

The science of neuroaesthetics has proven the benefits to our mind and body of being surrounded by a thoughtful, customized space. In this episode, I describe what it is that these rooms are actually doing, and how the design community can create rooms that support people to become more of what they want to be. I share insights about how our brains process environments, why custom pieces matter on a neurological level, and how understanding these principles can help you win client trust and defend your design decisions.

As one of the first in the industry to be SIDC certified in neuroaesthetics, I truly believe in the power of neuroaesthetics to elevate the interior design industry as a whole. This knowledge I’ve gained has had a great impact in not only building my own business, in terms of the direct and in-direct results I give my clients, but I’ve also seen its positive impact on the schools and stores we’ve consulted with. Intentional decisions and artwork are very important in dictating the energy in a space.  We’ve seen it firsthand.

For “the garden variety person with good taste”, as LuAnn says, you know that you feel better when your house is a certain way. Neuroaesthetics can also help you understand things like why you gravitate towards a certain pattern or color, what can make you closer to your family, and one of the biggest ways to set the energy in the environment.  LuAnn and I talk about these things in episode 1065 of A Well-Designed Business, Harnessing Neuroaesthetics: Understanding the Power of Space

My mission is to strengthen the relationship people have with their homes. Whatever your goals, your home can and will support you in achieving them when you craft them to do so.  I hope this episode of a Well Designed Business with LuAnn Nigara opens the doors for you in understanding of the power of neuroaesthetics when you design your home, and the benefits of hiring a professional interior designer to help you achieve successful, salient spaces.
